Solar diesel hybrid systems: keep your generator, burn far less fuel
Solar and batteries carry most of the load. Your generator runs only when it is really needed.
If your generator runs for hours every day, fuel and maintenance are among your biggest costs. A hybrid system keeps your existing generator, adds solar and a lithium battery, and lets an energy management system decide when the generator starts.
How it works
- Daytime: solar supplies the load and charges the battery.
- Evening and night: the battery supplies the load. The generator stays off.
- Long outage or cloudy days: when the battery reaches its lower limit, the EMS starts the generator at an efficient load, charges the battery, then stops it.
Generators burn the most fuel per kWh at low load. A hybrid system removes most of those low-load hours.
What it typically saves
In our sample report for a Gauteng factory, diesel use falls from about 3,950 L to about 800 L per month. Your own report calculates this from your loads and generator data.
Works with the generator you already have
We integrate most diesel generators through an automatic transfer switch and the EMS. Send us the generator nameplate and we check compatibility in your free assessment.
